What Protollix is and is not
Posted on July 15th, 2009 No commentsFirst let me say that it’s taken some time to get this blog going. The software and domain has been installed and ready to go, I just have not had the time to really put some words down here that actually have any relevance! So with that said, I would like to take some time today to post a few things about the company.
Let’s start with what Protollix is
Protollix is
- a small, privately owned company offering web services to customers.
- a company with only one employee (yes, it’s true).
- a company that strives to exceed the expectations of its customers.
- a company that is friendly to work with and is customer-focused on delivering quality services at competitive prices.
So what does this all mean? Well, let me start by addressing the “only one employee” point above. This may scare the heck out of some potential customers and for good reason. Yes it is true, I am the sole employee of Protollix, LLC and have been since it was formed in the spring of 2003. Since then, I have been the server admin and the support tech. I like to think I have provided some very reliable services to my customers and answered support requests in a very timely manner. Sure, there have been service hiccups and some downtime throughout the years. This is bound to happen to any provider, even Rackspace. With that said, I like to think Protollix has recovered from downtime in a timely manner without significant impact to customers.
When problems do occur, you can be assured that I get on the problem as soon as possible and deliver a solution in a reasonable amount of time.
What allows Protollix to function with only one employee? Well, there are a couple things that come together to make this possible – right now the number one item is that Protollix is a very small company, client-wise. Combine that with the number of support requests received in any given month (which can be counted on one hand) and the fact that the datacenter the servers are hosted in provide great support and combine *that* with the support we receive for our Cloud hosting offering is offered *directly* to our cloud customers and you can see that being a one employee company does not mean you are not given first class support.
Protollix is not
- a large company.
- a company that promises the world and delivers a handful of dirt.
- a profit oriented company.
Wait, what? That last point might strike some of you as odd. Sure, Protollix exists to make money. But it does not exist to make money at the expense of sacrificing customer support and relations. I would rather take a hit and make my customers happy, than make a profit and make them all mad. In fact, most of Protollix’s customers have been hosting with Protollix since 2003 or 2004. How’s that for customer loyalty?
As well, I don’t believe in overselling. You know the hosts, they offer 5TB of disk space and unlimited data transfer for $1.95/month. Then they place ridiculous restrictions on your account, such as no files larger than 100mb. Or all files *must* be linked to from a web page on the account. Protollix places no such restrictions on your account. We allocate the space you purchase from us and you use it how you like, barring a few exceptions (for example, we do not allow IRC bots – which is a process that runs, not files that just sit on the server). But, if you purchase 1GB of disk space, you are allowed to dump your backups from your desktop there if you wish. It’s your space to store your files.
So is Protollix right for you? Well, if you require 24/7 phone support over a 1-800 number – then no, it is not. However, if you want a reliable hosting service, with ample resources and a friendly person on the other side of the support call, ticket or email who will do what it takes to “make it right”, then Protollix may be just what you need!
